When will we get the message? It’s not the clothes that our (mainly) women and girls are wearing that causes sexual harassment and sexual abuse and sexual assault.
Perhaps it is understanding that employees have a need to be safe and comfortable. By safe I mean that your boss doesn’t try to lure you into bed against your wishes. And by comfortable I mean that you’re able to access the most basic of human biological needs as needed.
Yes. It’s the year 2020, and yes, you read the title correctly. According to a recent report by Slater & Gordon, this is perhaps one of the more unexpected aspects of remote working. A whooping 35% of women interviewed claimed to have been subjected to sexist workplace demands whilst working from home.
And what about the fact that a conversation is a two way engagement. If its boring – then both parties have a role to play in that.
This is about where an organisation gets itself in a mess, and rather than face up to the systematic issues that have caused the mess, instead points the stick at one person.
This is where a man and a woman undertake the SAME job and do NOT receive the same remuneration. This is the area where many of the ranting Linkedin posts occur: “I get paid the same as the women I work with”.
It’s almost as though the boards make the calculation that the value/experience/brand that the CEO brings is worth more than the poor behaviour. That they can tolerate the poor behaviour because of their performance in other areas.
