If you’re hearing this in your personal life from a significant other, it’s possible that it’s a more prevalent habit than just in the home. It’s worth taking some time to get to grips with it. It’s one of those habits than eventually ends up tripping you up in one or other parts of your life.
When we communicate in real life, we can read the situation – and we (hopefully) adjust our approach according to the cues that we are picking up. If we see that the other person is getting flustered or annoyed by what we’re saying, we might choose to take another tack. Or perhaps pursue it again another day.
If there is ANY chance of an email being misinterpreted. If the content is sensitive. Or if the receiver is time poor and likely to skim read .. Ask yourself – what’s the purpose of putting this in writing? Is it to avoid the conversation? Perhaps to protect myself in case something comes back to bite me?
