Yikes, it has been six months between wrap ups.. An indication of how busy life has been at this end. What’s been keeping me busy?
Mainly cultural reviews, work on positive workplace culture and workplace investigations. Probably not surprising given the press attention to the subject. See more for what is making news..
What’s making the news work wise this month
- Themes that are making news work wise
- Hybrid Working: How do we make it work? How can we bring the best of being in the office with the benefits that we know come from flexible working. And another article here. Watch this space, as I am doing a nice little side collaboration with a long time colleague on a tool that might just answer some of these questions, particularly for those organisations who just don’t know where to start.
- Respect at Work: it’s an issue that continues to gather pace and momentum, supported by changes to legislation. It will be interesting to see what the change of government does in this space.
- The Great Resignation/Adaptation/Reflection: Aligned with the hybrid working, employees are contemplating the meaning of work now more than ever. Mercer calls this the rise of the “relational organisation” – and more and more employees are saying it’s not just a master/servant relationship anymore, it has to work beyond the transaction of being paid.
- Psychological safety: this is finally getting a huge amount of attention (linked no doubt to the other key themes I have listed here).
- Toxic Work Cultures: they’re all linked but again this is getting lots of specific attention which is great. Nice tip here to create a positive work culture.
- Inclusion: Lots of talk (maybe not so much action yet) around various forms of inclusion. One nice self assessment tool on offering benefits for families that may be useful is from Circle In. You can find that here. Here’s another article on working mothers.

What I am reading and listening to in May:
I am geeking out on the Andrew Huberman podcast which talks about all things human- motivation, sleep, habits, grief. It is based in neuroscience but incredibly practical – and worth the listen. His episodes on sleep and habit formation may well be life changing!
Stop Talking, Start Influencing – another brain based book on how to get the best out of presentations, facilitation and training. Very easy to read, and there are so many ah ha moments!!!
